The C2 Corvette, also known as the second-generation Corvette, is an iconic American sports car produced by Chevrolet from 1963 to 1967. This generation of the Corvette is celebrated for its striking design, exceptional performance, and innovative features, making it a classic in automotive history.
One of the most distinctive features of the C2 Corvette is its sleek and aerodynamic design, characterized by its hidden headlights, split rear window (only seen in the 1963 model), and contoured bodylines. It was available in both coupe and convertible body styles, offering enthusiasts a choice between open-top cruising and the allure of a fastback roofline.
Under the hood, the C2 Corvette boasted a range of powerful V8 engines. The legendary 327-cubic-inch small-block V8 engine was the base option, with power outputs ranging from 250 to 375 horsepower. However, the most famous powerplant of this era was the thunderous 427-cubic-inch big-block V8, capable of producing up to 435 horsepower, making it a true muscle car icon.
In terms of performance, the C2 Corvette was renowned for its agility and speed. It featured an independent rear suspension system, which greatly improved handling and ride comfort compared to its predecessor. The availability of a four-speed manual transmission added to the driving excitement, and disc brakes became a standard feature.
The C2 Corvette also introduced the iconic Sting Ray name, which would become synonymous with high-performance Corvettes.
